The Arena — playing a game against the AI — is open, and it is
the tab next door. The Lab is the other half of Cauldron, and it is not
running on this server.
What the Lab does
Cauldron is a Magic: the Gathering rules engine whose only product is
information about decks. The Arena lets you play one game. The Lab answers the
questions one game cannot, by simulating thousands:
Consistency — goldfish a deck over and over. Does it actually do its
thing on curve, or did it just do it that one time you drew well?
Matchups — run full four-player pods with an AI on every seat and tally
who beats whom.
Why it is off here
Each of those runs is hundreds of complete games of Magic. That is a real amount
of compute, and this site is one machine — so the Lab is switched off on the public
deploy rather than left open for anyone to point at it. It is not gone; it runs
locally, and this is a capacity decision, not a permanent one.
Tell me when it opens
Stored as a plain line in a file on this machine, used once to tell
you the Lab is up, and shared with nobody. No list, no tracking, no other mail.
